just watched a Frontline documentary on global warming
in the film, they were discussing sources of energy, from fossil fuel to coal to gas to renewable energy
i think the foremost important issue is that as a consumer, we need to be responsible to the environment
we are the fundamental power that changes the market, changes a business decision making, changes global warming
as shown in the film, the US big 3 auto companies had a deal w/ the Clinton administration to develop hybrid cars with 10 billion help
instead, the campaign slowly died down and the focus is shifted to huge SUV trucks instead cuz they are the most profit maximizing product.. but ironically, toyota and honda freaked out at the advantage given at that time to the big 3, and invested tons into hybrid R&D.. now as the result, the big 3 is slaughtered by the market, and had no choice but to play catch up

many of those companies claimed to be socially responsible.. yeah.. my ass
many of the changes and ideas are not implemented until the consumers ultimately demand it
after all, they are still doing what they need to profit maximize and show the highest revenue and growth so they can be responsible for the stakeholders

at the same time, i really think the areas with renewable energy can be really profitable
and there are still a lot of rooms for development in technology and ideas
i have always been a big fan on the environment, but after the film i realize maybe i can invest my career in green tech development or renewable energy
it would be an interesting path, or even start a company? lol
